Biographies

Harriet Macauley grew up in Boston, Lincolnshire and moved to London in 1999 to study at Lewisham College. After a year of intensive studies of Jazz, ballet and contemporary dance Harriet accepted a full scholarship award on the BA Degree at London Contemporary Dance School (2000-2003).

During her degree Harriet was then rewarded a scholarship to study at Purchase Conservatory of Dance, New York. She was taught by founder members of the Martha Graham Company and Limon Dance Company including Kazuko Hirabayashi, Larry Clark, Neil Greenberg, Stephanie Tooman and Kevin Wynne.

On her return to London she was then chosen to attend Pact Zollverein residence in Essen, Germany taking part in improvisation, choreographic techniques and workshops with dancers from P.A.R.T.S. In 2003 Harriet danced for (NYDC) National Youth Dance Company working with Kenneth Tharp, Wayne Macgregor, Sheron Wray and was taught by Glen Wilkinson and Laila Diallo.

Previously Harriet worked as a professional contemporary dancer for both Richard Alston Dance Company and Rambert Dance Company. She has taught for Trinity Laban (Community and Education Department); Dance Captures & Creative Partnership, London Studio Centre; Feedback 33 forum and worked with Rambert Animator Lincoln Alert on 'Constant Speed' (Mark Baldwin).

In 2004 Harriet completed a Post-graduate degree in performance with Richard Alston Dance Company and continued with the company for a year touring USA and United Kingdom.

Pair Dance is a performance, education and research company that create works which highlight current issues affecting communities. Our vision is to bring different people together to encourage interaction and appreciation of dance.

"We aim to challenge what we regard as dance and to create works that inspire!"

Working with music producer Richard Leonard has shed new light on the way in which a choreographer works with music producers. His unique style of sound offers Pair Dance a new method and technique to constructing movement with dance.

In 1990 Richard Leonard (Ricky Bohannon) started DJing at private parties in and around London later to play at clubs including Heaven, Gardening Club, The Fridge, The Cross, Bar Rumba, The Wag, The Park and Sound Shaft.

He later established his own successful club nights in and around the South East; Night Wish, Whisky-a-go-go and Crykee! with various sets at European and Mediterranean clubs.

Since 1992 Richard has worked on compositions covering many genres with a direction of instrumental and film score styles. His music is based on emotive content, not on following a set style or procedure.

In the mid 90's music production company Air In Motion was created with two colleagues (Geo Frangos & Andy Finch) as an outlet for their own musical compositions together with writing, producing and remixing for a number of artists.

Establishing Pair Dance with Harriet has now seen Richard adopt a whole new approach to his work.

"Creating music and sound scores for Contemporary Dance is totally different from the music scene - it actually dictates more creativity and pushes you to break every rule of prediction or acceptance that an audience might normally have"
